Overview
The SFP-1G-LX-20 Compatible transceiver is a versatile and reliable optical module designed for Gigabit Ethernet applications requiring reach beyond the standard 10km limit. Compliant with 1000BASE-LX/LH standards, this module transmits data at 1.25 Gbps using a 1310nm Fabry-Perot (FP) or DFB laser.
Capable of reaching distances up to 20 kilometers over Single Mode Fiber (SMF), it provides a cost-effective solution for campus backbones and metropolitan area networks (MAN). It features a standard Duplex LC interface and includes Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) to ensure your network link health is always visible.
Key Features
- Extended Reach: Supports link lengths up to 20km on 9/125µm Single Mode Fiber (double the standard LX reach).
- Data Rate: 1.25 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet / Fibre Channel).
- Wavelength: 1310nm.
- Connector: Industry-standard Duplex LC.
- DDM/DOM Support: Monitors optical Tx/Rx power, temperature, and voltage in real-time.
- Versatile: Can also support shorter links on Multimode Fiber (with conditioning patch cables) in specific setups.
- Hot-Swappable: Install or replace without disrupting the rest of the switch.
Applications
The 1000BASE-LX/LH 20km SFP is the workhorse of modern fiber networks:
- Enterprise Backbones: Connecting wiring closets in large office buildings or warehouses.
- Campus Networks: Linking university or hospital buildings spanning medium distances.
- ISP Last Mile: Providing fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) connectivity.
- Industrial Automation: Connecting controllers and switches in large factory floors.

FAQ (Technical & Product Questions)
1. What is the difference between 1000BASE-LX and 1000BASE-LH?
Technically, IEEE standardizes 1000BASE-LX for 10km. 1000BASE-LH (Long Haul) is a vendor term (popularized by Cisco) for modules that use similar technology but are rated for longer distances, typically up to 20km. This module covers both requirements.
2. Can I use this 20km module for a 100m link?
Yes. Unlike the high-power 80km modules, the 1000BASE-LX/LH 20km module generally does not require attenuation for short distances over Single Mode Fiber. It has a wide dynamic range.
3. Can I use this module with Multimode Fiber?
Yes, but with caveats. The 1000BASE-LX standard allows operation over Multimode Fiber (OM1/OM2/OM3) for short distances (typically 550m), but you must use a Mode Conditioning Patch (MCP) cable to prevent signal degradation (DMD). For pure Multimode applications, an SX module is usually preferred.
4. Does this module support DDM?
Yes, this module includes DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring), allowing you to see optical power levels and temperature via your switch’s command line interface (CLI).
