Overview of 10G SFP+ Transceiver Modules
10G SFP+ (Enhanced Small Form-factor Pluggable) modules are the industry-standard component for 10 Gigabit network connectivity. These compact, hot-pluggable transceivers are essential for connecting switches, routers, servers, and storage devices in data centers, enterprise networks, and service provider environments. For instance, they provide a flexible and scalable way to deploy 10Gbps links over various distances and media types. The SFP+ standard is an evolution of the earlier SFP form factor. However, it is engineered to support the higher speeds of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and other equivalent protocols.
Furthermore, the incredible versatility of the SFP+ ecosystem is its greatest strength. It supports not only fiber optic connections but also Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables for short, in-rack links and RJ-45 copper modules for connectivity over structured cabling. In addition, specialized versions like CWDM and DWDM SFP+ modules exist. Consequently, network operators can transmit multiple 10G channels over a single fiber pair, dramatically increasing bandwidth capacity. As a result, 10G SFP+ remains the most popular and cost-effective solution for 10G networking.
Key Features and Applications
Our 10G SFP+ modules are built to MSA standards for maximum performance and compatibility. Indeed, their wide range of options serves nearly any networking need.
- Protocol Versatility: First and foremost, they are the standard for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE). They also support protocols like 10G Fibre Channel, OTN OTU2e, and SONET OC-192.
- Extensive Reach Options: We offer a complete lineup, including SR (300m MMF), LR (10km SMF), ER (40km SMF), and ZR (80km SMF) to cover any distance requirement.
- Multiple Media Types: Beyond fiber, we provide 10GBASE-T modules for copper, as well as passive/active DACs and Active Optical Cables (AOCs) for simple, low-cost server connections.
- Guaranteed Compatibility: Because they are MSA-compliant and correctly coded, our modules ensure seamless, plug-and-play operation with equipment from all major network vendors.
Common Applications:
- Data Center server access and Top-of-Rack (ToR) switching.
- Enterprise network core, distribution, and access layer uplinks.
- Service Provider aggregation and transport networks.
- High-speed Storage Area Network (SAN) and NAS connectivity.

FAQ (Technical & product category Questions)
1. What is the main difference between SFP and SFP+?
The main difference is speed. SFP ports and modules are designed for 1Gbps data rates. In contrast, SFP+ is an enhanced version designed for 10Gbps rates. While they share the same physical size, they are not always interchangeable in function.
2. Can I use a 1G SFP module in a 10G SFP+ port?
Yes, in most modern networking equipment. An SFP+ port is typically backward-compatible with a standard SFP module. However, the port will lock to a 1Gbps speed when you do this. You cannot use a 10G SFP+ module in a 1G SFP port.
3. What do SR, LR, ER, and ZR mean?
These acronyms define the reach of the optical module. SR (Short Reach) is for short distances over multimode fiber. LR (Long Reach) is the 10km standard over single-mode fiber. ER (Extended Reach) goes up to 40km, and ZR goes up to 80km, both over single-mode fiber.
4. When should I use a DAC instead of an optical SFP+ module?
A Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cable is a fixed-length copper cable with SFP+ connectors on both ends. You should use a DAC for very short connections (typically under 7 meters), such as connecting a server to a switch within the same rack. It is a highly reliable and very low-cost alternative to using two transceivers and a fiber patch cable.
5. Are your 10G SFP+ modules compatible with my Cisco (or other brand) switch?
Yes. Our modules are programmed to be 100% compatible with the equivalent OEM part. They adhere to the same MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) standards as the major brands. Therefore, they will work seamlessly in your Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Dell, HPE, or other brand-name equipment.
