Overview
The SFP-1G-LX Compatible transceiver is the industry-standard solution for Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over Single Mode Fiber. Compliant with the 1000BASE-LX IEEE 802.3z standard, this module delivers reliable 1.25 Gbps data transmission up to 10 kilometers.
Utilizing a precise 1310nm Fabry-Perot (FP) laser, it connects switches, routers, and servers across medium-length spans. It is equipped with a Duplex LC interface and supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), allowing network administrators to track real-time parameters such as optical output power and temperature.
Key Features
- Standard Reach: Supports link lengths up to 10km on 9/125µm Single Mode Fiber.
- Data Rate: 1.25 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet).
- Wavelength: 1310nm.
- Connector: Duplex LC.
- DDM/DOM Support: Integrated digital diagnostics for real-time link health monitoring.
- Multimode Support: Can operate up to 550m on Multimode Fiber using a Mode Conditioning Patch cable.
- Reliability: MSA Compliant for broad switch compatibility.
Applications
The 1000BASE-LX 10km SFP is an essential component for modern fiber networks:
- Building-to-Building Links: Connecting adjacent buildings within a corporate or educational campus.
- Telecom Access: Connecting enterprise routers to ISP demarcation points.

FAQ (Technical & Product Questions)
1. Can I use this 10km LX module with Multimode fiber?
Yes, the 1000BASE-LX standard supports Multimode fiber (OM1/OM2/OM3) for distances up to 550m. However, you must use a Mode Conditioning Patch (MCP) cable to launch the laser correctly into the multimode core. Without it, you may experience Differential Mode Delay (DMD) and link errors.
2. What is the difference between 1000BASE-LX and 1000BASE-SX?
SX (Short Wavelength) uses 850nm and is designed strictly for Multimode fiber (up to 550m). LX (Long Wavelength) uses 1310nm and is designed primarily for Single Mode fiber (up to 10km), though it can be adapted for Multimode use.
3. Will this work in a 10G SFP+ port?
Generally, yes, provided the switch allows the SFP+ port to negotiate down to 1G speeds or can be manually configured to 1000Mbps. It will not run at 10Gbps.
4. Do I need an attenuator for short Single Mode links?
No. The transmit power of a standard LX module is low enough that it will not damage the receiver, even on very short cables (e.g., 1 meter patch cords).
