Overview
The SFP-10G-LR Compatible transceiver is the industry “workhorse” for 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Compliant with the 10GBASE-LR standard, this module provides high-speed data transmission up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) over Single Mode Fiber (SMF).
Utilizing a 1310nm DFB laser, this SFP+ module is designed for high reliability and broad interoperability. It is the go-to solution for connecting switches, routers, and servers across large buildings, campuses, or metropolitan networks. It features a standard Duplex LC connector and integrated Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for real-time link health analysis.
Key Features
- Standard Reach: Supports link lengths up to 10km on 9/125µm Single Mode Fiber.
- Data Rate: 10.3125 Gbps (10G Ethernet).
- Wavelength: 1310nm (DFB Laser).
- Connector: Duplex LC.
- Interface: SFP+ MSA Compliant.
- DDM/DOM Support: Monitor temperature, voltage, laser bias, and optical power levels in real-time.
- Hot-Pluggable: Can be installed without powering down the switch.
- Low Power: Energy-efficient design (typically < 1W).
Applications
The 10G 1310nm 10km SFP+ is the primary choice for single-mode 10G uplinks:
- Campus Networking: Connecting distribution switches in different buildings.
- Data Center Uplinks: Core-to-distribution or spine-leaf connectivity.
- Enterprise Backbones: High-speed trunks between server rooms and wiring closets.
- Storage Area Networks (SAN): Fiber Channel compatible (depending on switch support).
- ISP & Telecom: Metro access and aggregation rings.

FAQ (Technical & Product Questions)
1. What is the difference between 10GBASE-LR and 10GBASE-SR?
Fiber Type and Distance. 10GBASE-LR (Long Reach) uses Single Mode Fiber (SMF) and reaches up to 10km. 10GBASE-SR (Short Reach) uses Multimode Fiber (MMF) and typically reaches only 300m (OM3) or 400m (OM4).
2. Can I use this module with Multimode Fiber (MMF)?
No. This module operates at 1310nm and is designed for Single Mode Fiber (9/125µm). Using it with Multimode Fiber (orange or aqua cables) will result in high signal loss and mode conditioning errors, causing the link to fail.
3. Do I need an attenuator for very short links (e.g., 2 meters)?
No. The receiver overload point for 10GBASE-LR is typically high enough that you can connect two modules back-to-back with a short patch cable without damaging them. Attenuators are generally only needed for ER (40km) or ZR (80km) modules.
4. What cable color should I use?
For Single Mode Fiber (SMF), the industry standard cable jacket color is Yellow.
