Overview
The 6G SFP+ SR Fiber Transceiver is a specialized optical module designed for high-speed wireless infrastructure and telecommunications applications. It is optimized for CPRI (Common Public Radio Interface) and OBSAI (Open Base Station Architecture Initiative) protocols, operating at a data rate of 6.144 Gbps (CPRI Option 6).
This “Short Reach” (SR) module utilizes an 850nm VCSEL transmitter and a PIN receiver to deliver reliable connectivity up to 300 meters over OM3 Multimode Fiber (MMF). It is widely used in cellular base stations to connect Remote Radio Units (RRU) to Baseband Units (BBU) in LTE and 4G networks.
Key Features

Why Choose 6G SFP+?
While 10G Ethernet is common in data centers, telecom networks often require specific rates to match the sampling rates of radio signals. The 6.144 Gbps rate is a standard “CPRI Option 6” speed used extensively in 4G infrastructure. Using a dedicated 6G module ensures clock synchronization and signal integrity that standard Ethernet modules might not guarantee for these specific protocols.
Compatibility
This module adheres to the SFP+ Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) and is compatible with a wide range of telecom equipment manufacturers, including:
- Ericsson (Base Stations)
- Nokia (AirScale/Flexi)
- Huawei / ZTE (BBU/RRU connections)
- Samsung Networks
- Cisco & Juniper (Router interfaces supporting CPRI)
FAQ
1. Can I use this 6G module in a 10G SFP+ port?
Physically, yes, it fits. However, the 10G port must support down-speeding or specific protocol negotiation to 6 Gbps. Standard 10GbE switches might not link up if they are fixed at 10.3125 Gbps. This module is primarily for telecom equipment (BBU/RRU).
2. What cable do I need?
You need a standard Multimode Fiber (MMF) patch cord with Duplex LC connectors. For the full 300m range, use OM3 (Aqua) or OM4 (Violet) cables. OM1/OM2 orange cables will result in much shorter distances.
3. Is this an Ethernet module?
Technically, no. While it uses the same SFP+ form factor as Ethernet, its primary clock and data recovery are optimized for CPRI/OBSAI rates (6.144 Gbps). It does not run standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
4. Does it support DDM?
Yes, it features Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM/DDM) allowing you to check laser power, temperature, and voltage via the host system.
