Overview
The XGS-PON OLT SFP+ Transceiver (Class N1) is a standardized optical module designed to enable 10-Gigabit Symmetric Passive Optical Networks. Compliant with ITU-T G.9807.1, this transceiver installs into the Central Office (CO) OLT equipment to provide high-speed broadband services to residential and business subscribers.
This model features a Class N1 optical power budget (typically ~29dB), making it an economical choice for networks with standard split ratios (e.g., 1:32) or shorter fiber runs where the higher power of Class N2 or E1 is not required. It operates within the commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C), perfectly suited for climate-controlled data center environments.
Key Features
- Symmetric 10G Performance: Supports 9.953 Gbps upstream and downstream, enabling high-bandwidth applications like symmetrical enterprise internet and 4K/8K video streaming.
- Class N1 Budget: Offers a standard optical link budget of approximately 29dB, optimized for cost-effective deployment in standard PON architectures.
- Industry Standard SFP+: Hot-pluggable SFP+ footprint ensures compatibility with XGS-PON line cards from major OLT vendors.
- Single Fiber WDM: Transmits on 1577nm and receives on 1270nm over a single strand of Single Mode Fiber (SMF).
- Real-Time Diagnostics: Built-in DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) allows operators to monitor optical power, temperature, and voltage remotely.
Applications
- Residential FTTx: Delivering Gigabit and Multi-Gigabit internet tiers to homes.
- Small Business Connectivity: Providing symmetric fiber access for SMEs requiring reliable cloud connectivity.
- MDU Deployments: Connecting Multi-Dwelling Units where fiber runs are shorter and split ratios are lower (e.g., 1:32).
- Campus Networks: Passive Optical LAN (POL) setups for universities or corporate campuses.

- Nokia: Compatible with ISAM FX series (FWLT-B) line cards.
- Calix: Compatible with E7-2 and AXOS systems supporting XGS-PON.
- FiberHome: Compatible with AN6000 series.
Optical Class N1 vs. N2
Choosing the right class depends on your network design:
- Class N1 (This Product): ~29dB Budget. Best for 1:32 split ratios or shorter distances. It is more cost-effective for deployments that do not push the optical limits.
- Class N2: ~31dB Budget. Provides higher power for 1:64 split ratios or longer reach. If your network has high insertion loss, consider the Class N2 version.
FAQ
1. Can I use this Class N1 module for a 1:64 split?
It depends on the total distance and connector loss. A 1:64 split typically introduces ~18-20dB of loss just from the splitter. Adding fiber attenuation (0.3dB/km), a Class N1 module (29dB budget) might be tight at full 20km range. For 1:64 splits, Class N2 is generally recommended for a safer margin.
2. What wavelengths does XGS-PON use?
XGS-PON uses 1577nm for downstream (OLT to ONU) and 1270nm for upstream (ONU to OLT). This allows it to coexist with GPON (1490nm/1310nm) on the same fiber.
3. Will this work in a GPON OLT port?
No. XGS-PON modules require an XGS-PON capable line card. They are not backward compatible with legacy GPON hardware slots, although they look physically identical (SFP/SFP+).
4. Is this module industrial temperature rated?
No, this specific item is rated for Commercial Temperature (0°C to 70°C). If you require a module for an outdoor cabinet or unconditioned environment, please choose our Industrial Temp (-40°C to +85°C) version.
