Overview
The Commercial Temperature XGS-PON & GPON Combo OLT SFP+ Transceiver is the most cost-effective solution for upgrading existing Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks to 10-Gigabit speeds. This Class B+ Multi-Protocol Module (MPM) integrates XGS-PON (10G) and GPON (2.5G) technologies into a single interface, allowing Service Providers to deliver next-generation bandwidth over standard optical distribution networks.
Designed for controlled environments like Central Offices (CO), this module operates within a 0°C to 70°C temperature range. It offers a balanced optical power budget suitable for typical network architectures with split ratios up to 1:64 and distances up to 20km.
Key Features
- Hybrid Connectivity: Transmits XGS-PON and GPON signals simultaneously on one fiber.
- Form Factor: Standard SFP+ package for high-density OLT line cards.
- Optical Class B+: Standard power budget (Min Tx +1.5dBm) optimized for 1:64 splits.
- Wavelengths:
- Downstream: 1577nm (XGS) & 1490nm (GPON)
- Upstream: 1270nm (XGS) & 1310nm (GPON)
- Reach: 20km over Single Mode Fiber (SMF).
- Connector: Simplex SC/UPC.
- Temperature: Commercial (0°C to 70°C).
Applications
- Standard FTTH Upgrades: The ideal entry-level module for introducing 10G services in established residential areas.
- Central Office Deployments: Designed for use in air-conditioned server rooms and exchanges.
- Network Migration: Enables “pay-as-you-grow” migration where GPON users stay connected while new XGS-PON users are added to the same PON port.

Class B+ vs. Class C+: Which do you need?
This Class B+ module is designed for standard optical budgets (approx. 28dB). It is the correct choice if your network uses a 1:64 split ratio and standard distances. If your network involves higher split ratios (1:128) or longer distances requiring a higher power budget (32dB+), consider the Class C+ version. For most standard residential deployments, Class B+ provides excellent performance at a lower cost.
FAQ
1. Can this module replace a standard GPON OLT module?
Yes, provided your OLT chassis supports SFP+ and the Combo software feature. It allows you to keep serving existing GPON customers while instantly enabling XGS-PON capabilities on the same fiber strand.
2. Is this module suitable for outdoor cabinets?
No, this is the Commercial Temperature (C-Temp) version (0°C to 70°C). For outdoor street cabinets without climate control, you should use the Industrial Temperature (I-Temp) version (-40°C to +85°C).
3. Do I need to change the optical splitters?
Generally, no. The wavelengths used by XGS-PON (1577nm/1270nm) pass through standard optical splitters just like GPON wavelengths. However, you must ensure you are not using older wavelength-blocking filters that might block the new XGS frequencies.
4. What connector is required?
This module uses a standard Simplex SC/UPC connector, which is the industry standard for PON OLT interfaces.
